12/12/2007 - Time to fit the Rudder to the Fin

With the 'special bearing insertion tool' made the three bearings were screwed into place following the measurements on the plans....51/64ths ... a little tricky reading that off the ruler I can tell you !  Anyway with a bit of fiddling the rudder was mated with the fin.  The first bits to be put together.

12/12/2007 - More Left elevator work

With the trim tab done and folded it was the turn of the ears on the left elevator.  Jig cut and assembled.

It turns out the bottom ear is easier to fold as it is against the work bench.  The top ear is trickier even when double sided tape, clenches and everything.  I was extremely please with the fold on the bottom (2nd picture) but the top is not as crisp a fold.

Time to show the trim tab in place, once again very happy from the bottom, the top has a widening gap inboard from the trailing edge

Gap measurement, basically a #40 drill was perfect from the bottom, but a larger gap can be seen on the top.

I decided to post on the RVUK forum for advice and also sent an email to Van's.  I had a total of four responses pretty much saying I was being picky and it is ok; so build on.

As I have done nothing for Christmas at this point I had better shelve building for a couple of weeks and get sorted.....

Merry Christmas Everyone;  more updates in the new year.
